1) Why are you selling such a wonderful automobile?
Since I bought the Civic in May of 2000 I've gotten married and had a kid. While the old Civic was fine for swingin' single guy, it's not roomy enough for a family man and a car seat. My budget is also a little better now than it was in 2000. We bought a larger car to fit our daughter and all the stuff that comes with her.
2) Are you the only owner?
I bought the Civic brand new from Honda of Ames in May of 2000. I have been the only owner so far. That's where you come in. You can be its second owner. I even still have the window sticker that came with it. I'll throw that in for no extra charge. Lucky you!
3) Can it fly or travel through time?
Not so far as I know, though I've never really tried. When you're taking it for a test drive if you try to get it up to 88 MPH I'll probably have to make you stop. That's above the posted speed limit here in Iowa and I won't stand for that kind of behavior.
4) What kind of mileage does it get?
Without doing any actual measuring (so yeah, it's just guess) I would say it gets 34 MPG or so on the highway and 28 or 29 MPG in the city. If you drive more conservatively you probably would get better mileage. The sticker says 30 MPG city and 35 MPG highway, and I believe them.
5) What about the timing belt, I hear you have to watch out for them?
You normally do, but we JUST replaced the timing belt. It's only got about 10 miles on it. It still has that new timing belt smell. We got the oil changed, too. Are we considerate sellers or what? The tires are also fairly new. They were purchased in July of 2008 and probably have 4000 to 5000 miles on them. Plenty of wear left on them.
6) Is that the stock radio or is it after market?
The radio in the Civic now is not the factory radio. I replaced it with a fancy Kenwood stereo that does everything the factory one did and has support for MP3s on CD and a whole lot more. I also lovingly added an Auxilary input with my own two hands so you can hook up an MP3 player if you'd like. I will include the factory radio so you can put it back in if you want. Actually I'm including the factory radio because after you buy the car I'll have no use for it and it will just clutter up my basement. My wife says I have too much junk as it is. To make it really rock I also replaced the factory speakers. I don't think I have the factory speakers anymore.
7) Is that a stick shift I see in that picture? Get out!
Yup, that's a stick shift. This baby has a 5 speed manual transmission. Well, that's 5 speeds going forward and one reverse, of course. (Don't laugh, people ask) Make sure you know how to drive a manual if you're coming by for a test drive. Some may think of that 5 speed as a liability. Not me. Not only does having a manual transmission give you awesome bragging rights, it keeps your friends from asking if they can drive your car. It's a win-win!
8) That moonroof looks fancy, does it leak?
Heck no. Not one single drop of water has ever snuck past that moonroof's defenses. The Civic gives you two great ways to keep yourself cool in the hot Iowa summers. You can use the completely functional air conditioning, or you can roll down the windows, open up the moonroof and get you some 3-70 air conditioning. Either way works fine. One's a little easier on your hair though.
9) How's the body?
A picture is worth a thousand words. There are a lot of pictures on the right. I tried to get every angle. I'll be honest, it has a few door dings, it did some hard duty being parked in a parking garage in Des Moines. I have kept the dings covered with touch up paint so it looks good. I'll even throw the bottle of touch up paint in with the car so you can continue keeping it look good. There is no rust, just little surface dings that I kept covered up.
